His actions are always well calculated and it usually works out in his favor. Kantum is also particularly blunt, almost the the point of rudeness. | Strengths & Weaknesses | Kantum has the benefit of the network of friendships that were made by the Leck symbiont's previous host, Alcor Leck. (Alcor was a leading researcher at the Trill Science Ministry). Kantum also has all the experience of a seasoned scientist, while still remaining relatively young. Kantum's biggest weakness is that he is unable to operate in teams well. He frequently will abandon a team if they hinder his progress and try to "fly solo" |

History
| Personal History | Kantum and his brother Kalic were abandoned by their parents at a very young age. Like many Trill, both the brothers wanted to host a symbiont. They grew up moving from orphanage to orphanage, and quickly learned that they were inelligible to become hosts. As they grew older, Kalic became obsessed with becoming a host, and searched desperately for a loophole. Kalic eventually discovered the truth: that all Trill were physically able to become hosts. Rather than going public with this information, Kalic made a deal with the Symbiosis Commision: the Commission would allow Kantum and Kalic to become initiates and in return Kalic would remain silent. The deal was made and the two brothers b egan their training. Kalic and Kantum both excelled at their studies, proving to their mentor their superior abilities time and time again. The year of their graduation was at hand, and shortly before the hosts were matched to their symbionts, Kalic went missing. Kantum searched for days, and the time for host-symbiont match-up came. Kantum was offered a symbiont, but he refused to be joined until his brother was found. Five weeks later Kalic's body was found jettisoned into orbit around Trill. The cause of death was phaser fire. Kantum waited another year, undergoing initiate's training again, and was again selected as a host. He accepted the Leck symbiont, and then immediately applied to Starfleet. Due to his extensive background in science (Alcor Leck's knowledge), previous experience in Starfleet (Three other hosts had been members of Starfleet), and his high scores on the aptitude tests, Starfleet allowed him to take a commission after a very brief stay at the academy Kantum was initially assigned to intelligence, but he has always wanted to continue his work in the sciences. |
