Meeting With The Crew

Mission: Dangerous Waters (Prologue)

Alex got on the ship-wide com and asked all department heads to meet in the conference room in one minute.

Ariana looked up hearing the summons from King. "Acknowledged.." She replied letting them know she got the message. Looking around she glanced to Lt. Kenzie, "Kenzie.. you're in charge.." She said and turned and headed out of Sickbay and began to make her way to the conference room. Moments later she entered the conference room and glanced around, looked like she was one of the first to arrive. Settling down at the table she pulled a data PADD from her lab coat and keyed it in to check on the patients in sickbay as she waited for everyone else to arrive.

Down in the engine room the Hermat chief engineer finished up the metaphasic shielding protocols in the generator's programming then walked up the four steps to head around the upper half of the warp core. Shi came to the lift platform and stepped onto it. It descended to the main level slowly; Ravenomez made a mental note to fix that after the senior staff meeting. "Hera, take charge. If you need me I'll be in the conference room." The Xindi-Primate woman nodded and Ravenomez left Engineering for deck 1. After a brief walk to a turbolift and an equally brief ride Ravenomez made hir way through the Bridge into the conference room. "Doctor, Captain." The chief engineer greeted.

Alex nodded at the Engineer.

Josh comes strolling into the conference room with a cup of coffee in his right hand & a padd in his left. He takes a seat in one of the open chairs. Without looking up from his padd, he says, "Hi everybody." Josh presses a button on the padd to power it down & sets it in front of him on the conference table.

AJ looked over as Ravenomez strode into the conference lounge. "Lieutenant..." she replied to the Hermat. She then put her PADD back into her lab coat pocket and crossed her legs before running her right hand through her blond hair. Wishing she had a cup of raktajino at the moment.

Vinnie walked in behind the Captain, he looked around the room and nodded to the officers and took a seat on the Captain's right, his ears perked up to listen to what everyone had to say about what was going on.

Ariana had leaned her head back against the high back leather seat and closed her eyes, wasn't that AJ was asleep but resting them. She hadn't allowed herself to rest much cause she wanted to get sickbay set up and things streamlined before a major problem came at them. It was only when Lt. Crow sat down to her left, did she open her eyes and glanced in his direction. Looking at the dark haired, blue eyed man she nodded to him and then looked across the table and saw Lt. Broughm coffee sitting in front of him and a smile came to her face as she thought about reaching across the table and getting a gulp of it, AJ had to look away as her grin spread even more cause the more she thought about it the sight of the ship's Chief Medical Officer diving across the black topped table and scarfing down coffee probably wasn't the best way to get to know everyone.

Alex could sense that the doctor really wanted a cup of coffee. Alex walked over to the replicator and ordered a cup of coffee and quietly handed her the cup before she started the meeting.

Looking up Aj gauged Alex's face for a moment, then a smile came upon the blond woman's features. She wondered if Alex was telepathic, but knew she wasn't cause she had read the medical file. Giving a nod of thanks, AJ gripped the warm mug in her hands and brought it up to her lips for a sooth sip.

Jon was sitting down in his office he thought he was dreaming when the comm came alive and heard he was to report for a department head meeting. Park stood and looked at his uniform and fixed the rank pips on his collor, Jon departed his office just as his Second in command of security came up to him. "Sir where are you going we have a staff meeting at 1500." He had forgotten the staff meeting. "Sorry Ensign the captain call a department head meeting so i have you run the meeting, you have read my padd." The young ensign looked at him with some doubt. "i will come as soon as the captains meeting is over."

Jon headed for the turbolift and he said "Bridge." The lift went up and Jon waited for the lift to reach the bridge, soon the lift opened and he stepped out and saw his Beta shift officer at Security and started to move to let him take the console. "As you were i have the department head metting to attend. The officer turned back and kept watching the console. Jon entered the Breifing room and saw many officers already there. "Sorry i am late, i ran into one of my officers and we had something to speck about." Jon looked at all the officers at the table and slid into the only open seat left. He looked at the Captain and waited for what was up.

Well everyone except the chief of operations was present and Ravenomez wondered where Lieutenant Hartley was. Shi looked back at the doctor and saw that she had closed her eyes, a doctor's day can be full of stress in the form of healing the wounded and curing the ill. The Hermat respected the doctor for what she does and shi hoped they would become good friends as well as the rest of the senior staff.

Josh looked around the table at everyone, making eye contact with all at the table. He took a gulp of his coffee, looked at Jon & said, "Jon, long time, no see. The last time I saw you, we were in the academy." Josh finished his coffee, got up from the table, went to the replicator & asked everyone, "Anyone else want a coffee?"

Jon looked at Josh "Why yes Josh good to see you again." Jon put his hand out for Josh to shake it. It was only a few years ago but he recalled his old friend from the academy "Congratz on making Lt.JG. I guess my congrtz was last in subspace." He joked with his friend. Jon remebered if it wasn't for Josh he wouldn't have finished the Academy, It was his skilles with a dna scanner that cleared him when a shuttle was destroyed just before a cadet was to fly it. Jon was assigned to do the walk around and he had cleared the shuttle fopr flight. "I will take some coffee you know i could never pass up a cup or pot."

As soon as everyone was settled in, Alex started the meeting up. "I am glad everyone err... mostly everyone is here. This meeting is going to be quick. I'm sorry its not one of those get to know you crew meetings, but we will have one real soon after we get through this current mission.

Alex brought up the screen and showed everyone what they were faced with. As you can see that a star is to go Nova while there is ferengi ship stuck, but we need options fast. Engineering is working on a solution, but it is only temporary. We need solutions and fast. So anyone here have any ideas on how to get the ferengi's out without us having to go in? Also there is another Ferengi ship in the vicinity setting course toward us.

Vinnie sat back and put his fingers together looking over his hands at the Captain, he kept quiet since he already knew these facts, he looked at each face with curiosity, he wanted to get to know each officer as best he could, the Doctor was an interesting person, he eyed her from the side but when she looked in his direction he looked away.

Saying the first thing that come to hir Ravenomez suggested. "We could launch a probe to boost our transporter range and accuracy."

"While I'm not a engineer, just a doctor but can tell you that we are talking about a lot of spacial radiation. I doubt transporters would be able to cut through that, even if we could ge close enough to break through we would be putting the ship at a great risk.... even though risk is part of our job." AJ said stated. AJ stood up to walk over to the wall unit where the Ferengi ship was being displayed. The expression on her face was one of calculating, "depending on how well they are shielded... would give them less then half a hour before radiation poisoning over takes them." She said then turned to the table and seated herself back down beside Lt. Crow.

Josh sat back down in his chair & said, "The maximum distance that we can approach to is 3,000,000km without getting any of that nasty radiation the nova is throwing out. I think we can extend the tractor beam to it's limit & to the ship out, but it'll be slow going. I recommend that a medical team be sent over by shuttle to monitor the Ferengi, if they decide to let us on their ship."

AJ looked to Josh and nodded in agreement. "I conqur. I can be ready in less in two minutes for departure. Given the circumstances I would feel best suited to go over there." She said then thought of something. "Captain," she said. "This Frengi ship that is on an intercept course... are we sure their coming to help? I mean we all know the Frengi will do anything for profit, including reap the rewards of those trapped over there."

Vinnie sat up and put his arms on the table crossing them. "I would agree with sending a shuttle over under normal circumstances but you forget one thing, a shuttles shields would not last that long in that radiation unless we can enhance them better, Lieutenant Ravenomez is it possible to enhance a shuttles shields so the shuttle will last longer over there?"

"It is possible and I suggest that the crew of the shuttle be given personal shielding devices as well as inoculations for radiation poisoning." The Hermat replied already thinking about what shi would do to the shuttle in order to defend it against the spacial elements. Another idea came to hir: "We could do a warp flyby and transport the Ferengi crew out, I will need to study the calculations a bit more in order to be absolutely sure it will succeed only a minute or two."

"It could work," Josh said with a little apprehension, "but the timing would have to be spot on. We'd be within range to transport for about 5 to 10 seconds." he took a drink of his coffee. "I suggest we boost transporter power so that we gain about 20 or so seconds in optimal range."

Vinnie smiled. "Leave the piloting to me, I hope the ferengi can handle transport to warp acceleration, some people cannot handle it, its unnerving, I have done it once, the end results were not pretty to say the least."

AJ couldn't help but grin at Vin's cocky statement, she resisted the urge to say what she was thinking, but the grin remained nonetheless. Bringing her cup to her lips she took a sip of it and then sat it down and crossed her legs again. "I can prepare a radation treatment and have it released into the ship's environmental system, that way everyone can be treated fairly quickly." She said then her grin returned.

Ravenomez turned to Alex as shi wanted to see what the Captain said.

Jon sat back drinking his coffee he was thinking everyone was coming up with great ideas but one thing was bothering him. Maybe it was the Secuirty cheif in him but he pointed out someting that everyone was forgetting. "What if we just let the Ferengi get them selfs out." Jon was looking at a few scans of the ship in the Nova's gravity well. "From the look of scans here there sheilds are at 98% and they have some kind of sheild enhaning devise." Jon looked at another scan of the ship and pulled up something in his memory. "Captain the ships sheilds can be enhanced by 45% by running warp power into the sheild grid and i have something in the ships storage that can bosst that by another 15%." Jon knew his device was experamental but he didn't think now was the time to tell them that he knew it would work after all the Uss Saber is using it to test it on a black hole. "Captain do you know the Uss Saber is using my device slightly modifed for her power output on a blackhole?"

"Can you explain to me what the device is?"

Ariana turned her attention and looked toward Jon, waiting to listen to see what his idea was.

Jon was expecting this and had made a padd, " The device i have created can beconneted to the sheild generator." Jon said and he hit a control and brought up the design. It was a small cylider with wires and connectors. the device was the size of a tricorder but slimmer. "When the device is brought online it give the sheild grid a 15% increse in sheild ability. I have been working on it for years after the USS Voyager was lost i put the project in high gear. As i said it can be used with other enhansments like running warp power into the grid." Jon looked at each officer and saw Josh taking real intrest. "Ofcourse i can make all details available to all department heads." Jonn waited

Listening to Jon she thought about it, while it sounded practical enough to work she was in no way able to comfirm or deny what Jon was saying the device could do. She was neither an engineer or science officer. She was just a doctor, thankfully there were smarter people who could make that decision. Bringing her coffee cup up, took a drink from it and then cradled it in her hands as they rested on her lap.

"Yes I would like that Lieutenant." Ravenomez said shi turned to Alex. "Your orders Captain as time is running out."

Vinnie looked at Jon and shook his head. "Lieutenant, I have my doubts on this enhancement, mostly because has it been experimented with, if yes what type of ship, if so if its a ship older then this one, totally different systems, remember the Intrepid has a bio-network, you could cause failiures or damage to the bio-gel packs."

"I do too. I'd rather see it tested thorougly before we try it when lives are at stake." Alex looked at the doctor. "I want you to set up the inoculations and go with Lieutenant Crow on the shuttle." Alex then looked to the engineer. "Lieutenant, I want you to enhance those shields. Any questions?"

Ravenomez nodded. "Aye Captain," shi waited to see if anyone had any questions. "On both the shuttle and the Horizon?"

"Yes," said Alex.

AJ looked toward Alex. "I'll have medical ready. Be it for incoming medical transport of the Frengi or going over there via shuttle." She said confidently.

"Thank you Lieutenant," said Alex. "Anyone else before I dismiss everyone?"

"I'd like to look in on these tests ma'am." Josh said. He found it interesting that a black hole device could be used to boost power output. That's when his mind snaped back to the task at hand. "We'll be ready." Josh said, "I'll have an eye on the radiation level. If it jumps, I'll let ya know."

"Oh," AJ said and looked up from her coffee mug. "Soon as I get back to sickbay I'll prepare the shipwide radiation treatment. I might have to get with Ravenomez to help with releasing it via the enviromental controls.."

"Understood," said Alex. "Everyone is dismissed."
